Cercaram-no, pois, e toda a noite o esperaram, às escondidas, na porta da cidade; e, toda a noite, estiveram em silêncio, pois diziam: Esperaremos até ao raiar do dia; então, daremos cabo dele. 3 Porém Sansão esteve deitado até à meia-noite; então, se levantou, e pegou ambas as folhas da porta da cidade com suas ombreiras, e, juntamente com a tranca, as tomou, pondo-as sobre os ombros; e levou-as para cima, até ao cimo do monte que olha para Hebrom. 4 Depois disto, aconteceu que se afeiçoou a uma mulher do vale de Soreque, a qual se chamava Dalila. 5 Então, os príncipes dos filisteus subiram a ela e lhe disseram: Persuade-o e vê em que consiste a sua grande força e com que poderíamos dominá-lo e amarrá-lo, para assim o subjugarmos; e te daremos cada um mil e cem siclos de prata. 6 Disse, pois, Dalila a Sansão: Declara-me, peço-te, em que consiste a tua grande força e com que poderias ser amarrado para te poderem subjugar. 7 Respondeu-lhe Sansão: Se me amarrarem com sete tendões frescos, ainda não secos, então, me enfraquecerei, e serei como qualquer outro homem. 8 Os príncipes dos filisteus trouxeram a Dalila sete tendões frescos, que ainda não estavam secos; e com os tendões ela o amarrou. 9 Tinha ela no seu quarto interior homens escondidos. Então, ela lhe disse: Os filisteus vêm sobre ti, Sansão! Quebrou ele os tendões como se quebra o fio da estopa chamuscada; assim, não se soube em que lhe consistia a força. 10 Disse Dalila a Sansão: Eis que zombaste de mim e me disseste mentiras; ora, declara-me, agora, com que poderias ser amarrado. 11 Ele lhe disse: Se me amarrarem bem com cordas novas, com que se não tenha feito obra nenhuma, então, me enfraquecerei e serei como qualquer outro homem. 12 Dalila tomou cordas novas, e o amarrou, e disse-lhe: Os filisteus vêm sobre ti, Sansão! Tinha ela no seu quarto interior homens escondidos. Ele as rebentou de seus braços como um fio. 13 Disse Dalila a Sansão: Até agora, tens zombado de mim e me tens dito mentiras; declara-me, pois, agora: com que poderias ser amarrado? Ele lhe respondeu: Se teceres as sete tranças da minha cabeça com a urdidura da teia e se as firmares com pino de tear, então, me enfraquecerei e serei como qualquer outro homem. Enquanto ele dormia, tomou ela as sete tranças e as teceu com a urdidura da teia. 14 E as fixou com um pino de tear e disse-lhe: Os filisteus vêm sobre ti, Sansão! Então, despertou do seu sono e arrancou o pino e a urdidura da teia. 15 Então, ela lhe disse: Como dizes que me amas, se não está comigo o teu coração? Já três vezes zombaste de mim e ainda não me declaraste em que consiste a tua grande força. 16 Importunando-o ela todos os dias com as suas palavras e molestando-o, apoderou-se da alma dele uma impaciência de matar. 17 Descobriu-lhe todo o coração e lhe disse: Nunca subiu navalha à minha cabeça, porque sou nazireu de Deus, desde o ventre de minha mãe; se vier a ser rapado, ir-se-á de mim a minha força, e me enfraquecerei e serei como qualquer outro homem. 18 Vendo, pois, Dalila que já ele lhe descobrira todo o coração, mandou chamar os príncipes dos filisteus, dizendo: Subi mais esta vez, porque, agora, me descobriu ele todo o coração. Então, os príncipes dos filisteus subiram a ter com ela e trouxeram com eles o dinheiro. 19 Então, Dalila fez dormir Sansão nos joelhos dela e, tendo chamado um homem, mandou rapar-lhe as sete tranças da cabeça; passou ela a subjugá-lo; e retirou-se dele a sua força. 20 E disse ela: Os filisteus vêm sobre ti, Sansão! Tendo ele despertado do seu sono, disse consigo mesmo: Sairei ainda esta vez como dantes e me livrarei; porque ele não sabia ainda que já o SENHOR se tinha retirado dele. 21 Então, os filisteus pegaram nele, e lhe vazaram os olhos, e o fizeram descer a Gaza; amarraram-no com duas cadeias de bronze, e virava um moinho no cárcere. 22 E o cabelo da sua cabeça, logo após ser rapado, começou a crescer de novo. 23 Então, os príncipes dos filisteus se ajuntaram para oferecer grande sacrifício a seu deus Dagom e para se alegrarem; e diziam: Nosso deus nos entregou nas mãos a Sansão, nosso inimigo. 24 Vendo-o o povo, louvavam ao seu deus, porque diziam: Nosso deus nos entregou nas mãos o nosso inimigo, e o que destruía a nossa terra, e o que multiplicava os nossos mortos. 25 Alegrando-se-lhes o coração, disseram: Mandai vir Sansão, para que nos divirta. Trouxeram Sansão do cárcere, o qual os divertia. Quando o fizeram estar em pé entre as colunas, 26 disse Sansão ao moço que o tinha pela mão: Deixa-me, para que apalpe as colunas em que se sustém a casa, para que me encoste a elas. 27 Ora, a casa estava cheia de homens e mulheres, e também ali estavam todos os príncipes dos filisteus; e sobre o teto havia uns três mil homens e mulheres, que olhavam enquanto Sansão os divertia. 28 Sansão clamou ao SENHOR e disse: SENHOR Deus, peço-te que te lembres de mim, e dá-me força só esta vez, ó Deus, para que me vingue dos filisteus, ao menos por um dos meus olhos. 29 Abraçou-se, pois, Sansão com as duas colunas do meio, em que se sustinha a casa, e fez força sobre elas, com a mão direita em uma e com a esquerda na outra. 30 E disse: Morra eu com os filisteus. E inclinou-se com força, e a casa caiu sobre os príncipes e sobre todo o povo que nela estava; e foram mais os que matou na sua morte do que os que matara na sua vida. 31 Então, seus irmãos desceram, e toda a casa de seu pai, tomaram-no, subiram com ele e o sepultaram entre Zorá e Estaol, no sepulcro de Manoá, seu pai. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him. 3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. 4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver. 6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee. 7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. 8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. 9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known. 10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound. 11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. 12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread. 13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. 14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web. 15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. 16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death; 17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. 18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. 19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. 20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him. 21 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. 22 Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. 23 Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. 24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us. 25 And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. 26 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them. 27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport. 28 And Samson called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. 29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. 30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. 31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Atos 20 1 Cessado o tumulto, Paulo mandou chamar os discípulos, e, tendo-os confortado, despediu-se, e partiu para a Macedônia. 2 Havendo atravessado aquelas terras, fortalecendo os discípulos com muitas exortações, dirigiu-se para a Grécia, 3 onde se demorou três meses. Tendo havido uma conspiração por parte dos judeus contra ele, quando estava para embarcar rumo à Síria, determinou voltar pela Macedônia. 4 Acompanharam-no [até à Ásia] Sópatro, de Beréia, filho de Pirro, Aristarco e Secundo, de Tessalônica, Gaio, de Derbe, e Timóteo, bem como Tíquico e Trófimo, da Ásia; 5 estes nos precederam, esperando-nos em Trôade. 6 Depois dos dias dos pães asmos, navegamos de Filipos e, em cinco dias, fomos ter com eles naquele porto, onde passamos uma semana. 7 No primeiro dia da semana, estando nós reunidos com o fim de partir o pão, Paulo, que devia seguir viagem no dia imediato, exortava-os e prolongou o discurso até à meia-noite. 8 Havia muitas lâmpadas no cenáculo onde estávamos reunidos. 9 Um jovem, chamado Êutico, que estava sentado numa janela, adormecendo profundamente durante o prolongado discurso de Paulo, vencido pelo sono, caiu do terceiro andar abaixo e foi levantado morto. 10 Descendo, porém, Paulo inclinou-se sobre ele e, abraçando-o, disse: Não vos perturbeis, que a vida nele está. 11 Subindo de novo, partiu o pão, e comeu, e ainda lhes falou largamente até ao romper da alva. E, assim, partiu. 12 Então, conduziram vivo o rapaz e sentiram-se grandemente confortados. 13 Nós, porém, prosseguindo, embarcamos e navegamos para Assôs, onde devíamos receber Paulo, porque assim nos fora determinado, devendo ele ir por terra. 14 Quando se reuniu conosco em Assôs, recebemo-lo a bordo e fomos a Mitilene; 15 dali, navegando, no dia seguinte, passamos defronte de Quios, no dia imediato, tocamos em Samos e, um dia depois, chegamos a Mileto. 16 Porque Paulo já havia determinado não aportar em Éfeso, não querendo demorar-se na Ásia, porquanto se apressava com o intuito de passar o dia de Pentecostes em Jerusalém, caso lhe fosse possível. 17 De Mileto, mandou a Éfeso chamar os presbíteros da igreja. 18 E, quando se encontraram com ele, disse-lhes: Vós bem sabeis como foi que me conduzi entre vós em todo o tempo, desde o primeiro dia em que entrei na Ásia, 19 servindo ao Senhor com toda a humildade, lágrimas e provações que, pelas ciladas dos judeus, me sobrevieram, 20 jamais deixando de vos anunciar coisa alguma proveitosa e de vo-la ensinar publicamente e também de casa em casa, 21 testificando tanto a judeus como a gregos o arrependimento para com Deus e a fé em nosso Senhor Jesus [Cristo]. 22 E, agora, constrangido em meu espírito, vou para Jerusalém, não sabendo o que ali me acontecerá, 23 senão que o Espírito Santo, de cidade em cidade, me assegura que me esperam cadeias e tribulações. 24 Porém em nada considero a vida preciosa para mim mesmo, contanto que complete a minha carreira e o ministério que recebi do Senhor Jesus para testemunhar o evangelho da graça de Deus. 25 Agora, eu sei que todos vós, em cujo meio passei pregando o reino, não vereis mais o meu rosto. 26 Portanto, eu vos protesto, no dia de hoje, que estou limpo do sangue de todos; 27 porque jamais deixei de vos anunciar todo o desígnio de Deus. 28 Atendei por vós e por todo o rebanho sobre o qual o Espírito Santo vos constituiu bispos, para pastoreardes a igreja de Deus, a qual ele comprou com o seu próprio sangue. 29 Eu sei que, depois da minha partida, entre vós penetrarão lobos vorazes, que não pouparão o rebanho. 30 E que, dentre vós mesmos, se levantarão homens falando coisas pervertidas para arrastar os discípulos atrás deles. 31 Portanto, vigiai, lembrando-vos de que, por três anos, noite e dia, não cessei de admoestar, com lágrimas, a cada um. 32 Agora, pois, encomendo-vos ao Senhor e à palavra da sua graça, que tem poder para vos edificar e dar herança entre todos os que são santificados. 33 De ninguém cobicei prata, nem ouro, nem vestes; 34 vós mesmos sabeis que estas mãos serviram para o que me era necessário a mim e aos que estavam comigo. 35 Tenho-vos mostrado em tudo que, trabalhando assim, é mister socorrer os necessitados e recordar as palavras do próprio Senhor Jesus: Mais bem-aventurado é dar que receber. 36 Tendo dito estas coisas, ajoelhando-se, orou com todos eles. 37 Então, houve grande pranto entre todos, e, abraçando afetuosamente a Paulo, o beijavam, 38 entristecidos especialmente pela palavra que ele dissera: que não mais veriam o seu rosto. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. 4 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5 These going before tarried for us at Troas. 6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. 8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. 9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. 11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted. 13 And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot. 14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 15 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. 16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. 17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. 18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, 19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, 21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. 37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, 38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Jeremias 29 1 São estas as palavras da carta que Jeremias, o profeta, enviou de Jerusalém ao resto dos anciãos do cativeiro, como também aos sacerdotes, aos profetas e a todo o povo que Nabucodonosor havia deportado de Jerusalém para a Babilônia, 2 depois que saíram de Jerusalém o rei Jeconias, a rainha-mãe, os oficiais, os príncipes de Judá e Jerusalém e os carpinteiros e ferreiros. 3 A carta foi mandada por intermédio de Elasa, filho de Safã, e de Gemarias, filho de Hilquias, os quais Zedequias, rei de Judá, tinha enviado à Babilônia, a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e dizia: 4 Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a todos os exilados que eu deportei de Jerusalém para a Babilônia: 5 Edificai casas e habitai nelas; plantai pomares e comei o seu fruto. 6 Tomai esposas e gerai filhos e filhas, tomai esposas para vossos filhos e dai vossas filhas a maridos, para que tenham filhos e filhas; multiplicai-vos aí e não vos diminuais. 7 Procurai a paz da cidade para onde vos desterrei e orai por ela ao SENHOR; porque na sua paz vós tereis paz. 8 Porque assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Não vos enganem os vossos profetas que estão no meio de vós, nem os vossos adivinhos, nem deis ouvidos aos vossos sonhadores, que sempre sonham segundo o vosso desejo; 9 porque falsamente vos profetizam eles em meu nome; eu não os enviei, diz o SENHOR. 10 Assim diz o SENHOR: Logo que se cumprirem para a Babilônia setenta anos, atentarei para vós outros e cumprirei para convosco a minha boa palavra, tornando a trazer-vos para este lugar. 11 Eu é que sei que pensamentos tenho a vosso respeito, diz o SENHOR; pensamentos de paz e não de mal, para vos dar o fim que desejais. 12 Então, me invocareis, passareis a orar a mim, e eu vos ouvirei. 13 Buscar-me-eis e me achareis quando me buscardes de todo o vosso coração. 14 Serei achado de vós, diz o SENHOR, e farei mudar a vossa sorte; congregar-vos-ei de todas as nações e de todos os lugares para onde vos lancei, diz o SENHOR, e tornarei a trazer-vos ao lugar donde vos mandei para o exílio. 15 Vós dizeis: O SENHOR nos suscitou profetas na Babilônia. 16 Mas assim diz o SENHOR a respeito do rei que se assenta no trono de Davi e de todo o povo que habita nesta cidade, vossos irmãos, que não saíram convosco para o exílio; 17 assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos: Eis que enviarei contra eles a espada, a fome e a peste e fá-los-ei como a figos ruins, que, de ruins que são, não se podem comer. 18 Persegui-los-ei com a espada, a fome e a peste; fá-los-ei um espetáculo horrendo para todos os reinos da terra; e os porei por objeto de espanto, e de assobio, e de opróbrio entre todas as nações para onde os tiver arrojado; 19 porque não deram ouvidos às minhas palavras, diz o SENHOR, com as quais, começando de madrugada, lhes enviei os meus servos, os profetas; mas vós não os escutastes, diz o SENHOR. 20 Vós, pois, ouvi a palavra do SENHOR, todos os do exílio que enviei de Jerusalém para a Babilônia. 21 Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, acerca de Acabe, filho de Colaías, e de Zedequias, filho de Maaséias, que vos profetizam falsamente em meu nome: Eis que os entregarei nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e ele os ferirá diante dos vossos olhos. 22 Daí surgirá nova espécie de maldição entre os exilados de Judá que estão na Babilônia: o SENHOR te faça como a Zedequias e como a Acabe, os quais o rei da Babilônia assou no fogo; 23 porquanto fizeram loucuras em Israel, cometeram adultérios com as mulheres de seus companheiros e anunciaram falsamente em meu nome palavras que não lhes mandei dizer; eu o sei e sou testemunha disso, diz o SENHOR. 24 A Semaías, o neelamita, falarás, dizendo: 25 Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Porquanto enviaste no teu nome cartas a todo o povo que está em Jerusalém, como também a Sofonias, filho de Maaséias, o sacerdote, e a todos os sacerdotes, dizendo: 26 O SENHOR te pôs por sacerdote em lugar do sacerdote Joiada, para que sejas encarregado da Casa do SENHOR sobre todo homem fanático que quer passar por profeta, para o lançares na prisão e no tronco. 27 Agora, pois, por que não repreendeste a Jeremias, o anatotita, que vos profetiza? 28 Pois nos enviou mensageiros à Babilônia para nos dizer: Há de durar muito o exílio; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. 9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord. 10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. 15 Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon; 16 Know that thus saith the Lord of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; 17 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. 18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them: 19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the Lord. 20 Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon: 21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; 22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; 23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the Lord. 24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying, 25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, 26 The Lord hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the Lord, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks. 27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you? 28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. 30 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying, 31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the Lord concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie: 32 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people;
