Eles responderam: Os teus servos somos pastores de rebanho, tanto nós como nossos pais. 4 Disseram mais a Faraó: Viemos para habitar nesta terra; porque não há pasto para o rebanho de teus servos, pois a fome é severa na terra de Canaã; agora, pois, te rogamos permitas habitem os teus servos na terra de Gósen. 5 Então, disse Faraó a José: Teu pai e teus irmãos vieram a ti. 6 A terra do Egito está perante ti; no melhor da terra faze habitar teu pai e teus irmãos; habitem na terra de Gósen. Se sabes haver entre eles homens capazes, põe-nos por chefes do gado que me pertence. 7 Trouxe José a Jacó, seu pai, e o apresentou a Faraó; e Jacó abençoou a Faraó. 8 Perguntou Faraó a Jacó: Quantos são os dias dos anos da tua vida? 9 Jacó lhe respondeu: Os dias dos anos das minhas peregrinações são cento e trinta anos; poucos e maus foram os dias dos anos da minha vida e não chegaram aos dias dos anos da vida de meus pais, nos dias das suas peregrinações. 10 E, tendo Jacó abençoado a Faraó, saiu de sua presença. 11 Então, José estabeleceu a seu pai e a seus irmãos e lhes deu possessão na terra do Egito, no melhor da terra, na terra de Ramessés, como Faraó ordenara. 12 E José sustentou de pão a seu pai, a seus irmãos e a toda a casa de seu pai, segundo o número de seus filhos. 13 Não havia pão em toda a terra, porque a fome era mui severa; de maneira que desfalecia o povo do Egito e o povo de Canaã por causa da fome. 14 Então, José arrecadou todo o dinheiro que se achou na terra do Egito e na terra de Canaã, pelo cereal que compravam, e o recolheu à casa de Faraó. 15 Tendo-se acabado, pois, o dinheiro, na terra do Egito e na terra de Canaã, foram todos os egípcios a José e disseram: Dá-nos pão; por que haveremos de morrer em tua presença? Porquanto o dinheiro nos falta. 16 Respondeu José: Se vos falta o dinheiro, trazei o vosso gado; em troca do vosso gado eu vos suprirei. 17 Então, trouxeram o seu gado a José; e José lhes deu pão em troca de cavalos, de rebanhos, de gado e de jumentos; e os sustentou de pão aquele ano em troca do seu gado. 18 Findo aquele ano, foram a José no ano próximo e lhe disseram: Não ocultaremos a meu senhor que se acabou totalmente o dinheiro; e meu senhor já possui os animais; nada mais nos resta diante de meu senhor, senão o nosso corpo e a nossa terra. 19 Por que haveremos de perecer diante dos teus olhos, tanto nós como a nossa terra? Compra-nos a nós e a nossa terra a troco de pão, e nós e a nossa terra seremos escravos de Faraó; dá-nos semente para que vivamos e não morramos, e a terra não fique deserta. 20 Assim, comprou José toda a terra do Egito para Faraó, porque os egípcios venderam cada um o seu campo, porquanto a fome era extrema sobre eles; e a terra passou a ser de Faraó. 21 Quanto ao povo, ele o escravizou de uma a outra extremidade da terra do Egito. 22 Somente a terra dos sacerdotes não a comprou ele; pois os sacerdotes tinham porção de Faraó e eles comiam a sua porção que Faraó lhes tinha dado; por isso, não venderam a sua terra. 23 Então, disse José ao povo: Eis que hoje vos comprei a vós outros e a vossa terra para Faraó; aí tendes sementes, semeai a terra. 24 Das colheitas dareis o quinto a Faraó, e as quatro partes serão vossas, para semente do campo, e para o vosso mantimento e dos que estão em vossas casas, e para que comam as vossas crianças. 25 Responderam eles: A vida nos tens dado! Achemos mercê perante meu senhor e seremos escravos de Faraó. 26 E José estabeleceu por lei até ao dia de hoje que, na terra do Egito, tirasse Faraó o quinto; só a terra dos sacerdotes não ficou sendo de Faraó. 27 Assim, habitou Israel na terra do Egito, na terra de Gósen; nela tomaram possessão, e foram fecundos, e muito se multiplicaram. 28 Jacó viveu na terra do Egito dezessete anos; de sorte que os dias de Jacó, os anos da sua vida, foram cento e quarenta e sete. 29 Aproximando-se, pois, o tempo da morte de Israel, chamou a José, seu filho, e lhe disse: Se agora achei mercê à tua presença, rogo-te que ponhas a mão debaixo da minha coxa e uses comigo de beneficência e de verdade; rogo-te que me não enterres no Egito, 30 porém que eu jaza com meus pais; por isso, me levarás do Egito e me enterrarás no lugar da sepultura deles. Respondeu José: Farei segundo a tua palavra. 31 Então, lhe disse Jacó: Jura-me. E ele jurou-lhe; e Israel se inclinou sobre a cabeceira da cama. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  47 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen. 2 And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh. 3 And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers. 4 They said morever unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen. 5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee: 6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle. 7 And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 8 And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? 9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage. 10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh. 11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. 12 And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families. 13 And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine. 14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house. 15 And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth. 16 And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail. 17 And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year. 18 When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands: 19 Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate. 20 And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's. 21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof. 22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands. 23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. 24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones. 25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants. 26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's. 27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly. 28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years. 29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt: 30 But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said. 31 And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Lucas 2 1 Naqueles dias, foi publicado um decreto de César Augusto, convocando toda a população do império para recensear-se. 2 Este, o primeiro recenseamento, foi feito quando Quirino era governador da Síria. 3 Todos iam alistar-se, cada um à sua própria cidade. 4 José também subiu da Galiléia, da cidade de Nazaré, para a Judéia, à cidade de Davi, chamada Belém, por ser ele da casa e família de Davi, 5 a fim de alistar-se com Maria, sua esposa, que estava grávida. 6 Estando eles ali, aconteceu completarem-se-lhe os dias, 7 e ela deu à luz o seu filho primogênito, enfaixou-o e o deitou numa manjedoura, porque não havia lugar para eles na hospedaria. 8 Havia, naquela mesma região, pastores que viviam nos campos e guardavam o seu rebanho durante as vigílias da noite. 9 E um anjo do Senhor desceu aonde eles estavam, e a glória do Senhor brilhou ao redor deles; e ficaram tomados de grande temor. 10 O anjo, porém, lhes disse: Não temais; eis aqui vos trago boa-nova de grande alegria, que o será para todo o povo: 11 é que hoje vos nasceu, na cidade de Davi, o Salvador, que é Cristo, o Senhor. 12 E isto vos servirá de sinal: encontrareis uma criança envolta em faixas e deitada em manjedoura. 13 E, subitamente, apareceu com o anjo uma multidão da milícia celestial, louvando a Deus e dizendo: 14 Glória a Deus nas maiores alturas, e paz na terra entre os homens, a quem ele quer bem. 15 E, ausentando-se deles os anjos para o céu, diziam os pastores uns aos outros: Vamos até Belém e vejamos os acontecimentos que o Senhor nos deu a conhecer. 16 Foram apressadamente e acharam Maria e José e a criança deitada na manjedoura. 17 E, vendo-o, divulgaram o que lhes tinha sido dito a respeito deste menino. 18 Todos os que ouviram se admiraram das coisas referidas pelos pastores. 19 Maria, porém, guardava todas estas palavras, meditando-as no coração. 20 Voltaram, então, os pastores glorificando e louvando a Deus por tudo o que tinham ouvido e visto, como lhes fora anunciado. 21 Completados oito dias para ser circuncidado o menino, deram-lhe o nome de JESUS, como lhe chamara o anjo, antes de ser concebido. 22 Passados os dias da purificação deles segundo a Lei de Moisés, levaram-no a Jerusalém para o apresentarem ao Senhor, 23 conforme o que está escrito na Lei do Senhor: Todo primogênito ao Senhor será consagrado; 24 e para oferecer um sacrifício, segundo o que está escrito na referida Lei: Um par de rolas ou dois pombinhos. 25 Havia em Jerusalém um homem chamado Simeão; homem este justo e piedoso que esperava a consolação de Israel; e o Espírito Santo estava sobre ele. 26 Revelara-lhe o Espírito Santo que não passaria pela morte antes de ver o Cristo do Senhor. 27 Movido pelo Espírito, foi ao templo; e, quando os pais trouxeram o menino Jesus para fazerem com ele o que a Lei ordenava, 28 Simeão o tomou nos braços e louvou a Deus, dizendo: 29 Agora, Senhor, podes despedir em paz o teu servo, segundo a tua palavra; 30 porque os meus olhos já viram a tua salvação, 31 a qual preparaste diante de todos os povos: 32 luz para revelação aos gentios, e para glória do teu povo de Israel. 33 E estavam o pai e a mãe do menino admirados do que dele se dizia. 34 Simeão os abençoou e disse a Maria, mãe do menino: Eis que este menino está destinado tanto para ruína como para levantamento de muitos em Israel e para ser alvo de contradição 35 (também uma espada traspassará a tua própria alma), para que se manifestem os pensamentos de muitos corações. 36 Havia uma profetisa, chamada Ana, filha de Fanuel, da tribo de Aser, avançada em dias, que vivera com seu marido sete anos desde que se casara 37 e que era viúva de oitenta e quatro anos. Esta não deixava o templo, mas adorava noite e dia em jejuns e orações. 38 E, chegando naquela hora, dava graças a Deus e falava a respeito do menino a todos os que esperavam a redenção de Jerusalém. 39 Cumpridas todas as ordenanças segundo a Lei do Senhor, voltaram para a Galiléia, para a sua cidade de Nazaré. 40 Crescia o menino e se fortalecia, enchendo-se de sabedoria; e a graça de Deus estava sobre ele. 41 Ora, anualmente iam seus pais a Jerusalém, para a Festa da Páscoa. 42 Quando ele atingiu os doze anos, subiram a Jerusalém, segundo o costume da festa. 43 Terminados os dias da festa, ao regressarem, permaneceu o menino Jesus em Jerusalém, sem que seus pais o soubessem. 44 Pensando, porém, estar ele entre os companheiros de viagem, foram caminho de um dia e, então, passaram a procurá-lo entre os parentes e os conhecidos; 45 e, não o tendo encontrado, voltaram a Jerusalém à sua procura. 46 Três dias depois, o acharam no templo, assentado no meio dos doutores, ouvindo-os e interrogando-os. 47 E todos os que o ouviam muito se admiravam da sua inteligência e das suas respostas. 48 Logo que seus pais o viram, ficaram maravilhados; e sua mãe lhe disse: Filho, por que fizeste assim conosco? Teu pai e eu, aflitos, estamos à tua procura. 49 Ele lhes respondeu: Por que me procuráveis? Não sabíeis que me cumpria estar na casa de meu Pai? 50 Não compreenderam, porém, as palavras que lhes dissera. 51 E desceu com eles para Nazaré; e era-lhes submisso. Sua mãe, porém, guardava todas estas coisas no coração. 52 E crescia Jesus em sabedoria, estatura e graça, diante de Deus e dos homens. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  2 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. 21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Jó 14 1 O homem, nascido de mulher, vive breve tempo, cheio de inquietação. 2 Nasce como a flor e murcha; foge como a sombra e não permanece; 3 e sobre tal homem abres os olhos e o fazes entrar em juízo contigo? 4 Quem da imundícia poderá tirar coisa pura? Ninguém! 5 Visto que os seus dias estão contados, contigo está o número dos seus meses; tu ao homem puseste limites além dos quais não passará. 6 Desvia dele os olhares, para que tenha repouso, até que, como o jornaleiro, tenha prazer no seu dia. 7 Porque há esperança para a árvore, pois, mesmo cortada, ainda se renovará, e não cessarão os seus rebentos. 8 Se envelhecer na terra a sua raiz, e no chão morrer o seu tronco, 9 ao cheiro das águas brotará e dará ramos como a planta nova. 10 O homem, porém, morre e fica prostrado; expira o homem e onde está? 11 Como as águas do lago se evaporam, e o rio se esgota e seca, 12 assim o homem se deita e não se levanta; enquanto existirem os céus, não acordará, nem será despertado do seu sono. 13 Que me encobrisses na sepultura e me ocultasses até que a tua ira se fosse, e me pusesses um prazo e depois te lembrasses de mim! 14 Morrendo o homem, porventura tornará a viver? Jacó! Ele respondeu: Eis-me aqui! 3 Então, disse: Eu sou Deus, o Deus de teu pai; não temas descer para o Egito, porque lá eu farei de ti uma grande nação. 4 Eu descerei contigo para o Egito e te farei tornar a subir, certamente. Todas as pessoas da casa de Jacó, que vieram para o Egito, foram setenta. 28 Jacó enviou Judá adiante de si a José para que soubesse encaminhá-lo a Gósen; e chegaram à terra de Gósen. 29 Então, José aprontou o seu carro e subiu ao encontro de Israel, seu pai, a Gósen. Apresentou-se, lançou-se-lhe ao pescoço e chorou assim longo tempo. 30 Disse Israel a José: Já posso morrer, pois já vi o teu rosto, e ainda vives. 31 E José disse a seus irmãos e à casa de seu pai: Subirei, e farei saber a Faraó, e lhe direi: Meus irmãos e a casa de meu pai, que estavam na terra de Canaã, vieram para mim. 32 Os homens são pastores, são homens de gado, e trouxeram consigo o seu rebanho, e o seu gado, e tudo o que têm. 33 Quando, pois, Faraó vos chamar e disser: Qual é o vosso trabalho? 34 Respondereis: Teus servos foram homens de gado desde a mocidade até agora, tanto nós como nossos pais; para que habiteis na terra de Gósen, porque todo pastor de rebanho é abominação para os egípcios. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  46 And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. 2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. Sua mulher era das filhas de Arão e se chamava Isabel. 6 Ambos eram justos diante de Deus, vivendo irrepreensivelmente em todos os preceitos e mandamentos do Senhor. 7 E não tinham filhos, porque Isabel era estéril, sendo eles avançados em dias. 8 Ora, aconteceu que, exercendo ele diante de Deus o sacerdócio na ordem do seu turno, coube-lhe por sorte, 9 segundo o costume sacerdotal, entrar no santuário do Senhor para queimar o incenso; 10 e, durante esse tempo, toda a multidão do povo permanecia da parte de fora, orando. 11 E eis que lhe apareceu um anjo do Senhor, em pé, à direita do altar do incenso. 12 Vendo-o, Zacarias turbou-se, e apoderou-se dele o temor. 13 Disse-lhe, porém, o anjo: Zacarias, não temas, porque a tua oração foi ouvida; e Isabel, tua mulher, te dará à luz um filho, a quem darás o nome de João. 14 Em ti haverá prazer e alegria, e muitos se regozijarão com o seu nascimento. 15 Pois ele será grande diante do Senhor, não beberá vinho nem bebida forte e será cheio do Espírito Santo, já do ventre materno. 16 E converterá muitos dos filhos de Israel ao Senhor, seu Deus. 17 E irá adiante do Senhor no espírito e poder de Elias, para converter o coração dos pais aos filhos, converter os desobedientes à prudência dos justos e habilitar para o Senhor um povo preparado. 18 Então, perguntou Zacarias ao anjo: Como saberei isto? Pois eu sou velho, e minha mulher, avançada em dias. 19 Respondeu-lhe o anjo: Eu sou Gabriel, que assisto diante de Deus, e fui enviado para falar-te e trazer-te estas boas-novas. 20 Todavia, ficarás mudo e não poderás falar até ao dia em que estas coisas venham a realizar-se; porquanto não acreditaste nas minhas palavras, as quais, a seu tempo, se cumprirão. 21 O povo estava esperando a Zacarias e admirava-se de que tanto se demorasse no santuário. 22 Mas, saindo ele, não lhes podia falar; então, entenderam que tivera uma visão no santuário. E expressava-se por acenos e permanecia mudo. 23 Sucedeu que, terminados os dias de seu ministério, voltou para casa. 24 Passados esses dias, Isabel, sua mulher, concebeu e ocultou-se por cinco meses, dizendo: 25 Assim me fez o Senhor, contemplando-me, para anular o meu opróbrio perante os homens. 26 No sexto mês, foi o anjo Gabriel enviado, da parte de Deus, para uma cidade da Galiléia, chamada Nazaré, 27 a uma virgem desposada com certo homem da casa de Davi, cujo nome era José; a virgem chamava-se Maria. 28 E, entrando o anjo aonde ela estava, disse: Alegra-te, muito favorecida! O Senhor é contigo. 29 Ela, porém, ao ouvir esta palavra, perturbou-se muito e pôs-se a pensar no que significaria esta saudação. 30 Mas o anjo lhe disse: Maria, não temas; porque achaste graça diante de Deus. 31 Eis que conceberás e darás à luz um filho, a quem chamarás pelo nome de Jesus. 32 Este será grande e será chamado Filho do Altíssimo; Deus, o Senhor, lhe dará o trono de Davi, seu pai; 33 ele reinará para sempre sobre a casa de Jacó, e o seu reinado não terá fim. 34 Então, disse Maria ao anjo: Como será isto, pois não tenho relação com homem algum? 35 Respondeu-lhe o anjo: Descerá sobre ti o Espírito Santo, e o poder do Altíssimo te envolverá com a sua sombra; por isso, também o ente santo que há de nascer será chamado Filho de Deus. 36 E Isabel, tua parenta, igualmente concebeu um filho na sua velhice, sendo este já o sexto mês para aquela que diziam ser estéril. 37 Porque para Deus não haverá impossíveis em todas as suas promessas. 38 Então, disse Maria: Aqui está a serva do Senhor; que se cumpra em mim conforme a tua palavra. E o anjo se ausentou dela. 39 Naqueles dias, dispondo-se Maria, foi apressadamente à região montanhosa, a uma cidade de Judá, 40 entrou na casa de Zacarias e saudou Isabel. 41 Ouvindo esta a saudação de Maria, a criança lhe estremeceu no ventre; então, Isabel ficou possuída do Espírito Santo. 42 E exclamou em alta voz: Bendita és tu entre as mulheres, e bendito o fruto do teu ventre! 43 E de onde me provém que me venha visitar a mãe do meu Senhor? 44 Pois, logo que me chegou aos ouvidos a voz da tua saudação, a criança estremeceu de alegria dentro de mim. 45 Bem-aventurada a que creu, porque serão cumpridas as palavras que lhe foram ditas da parte do Senhor. 46 Então, disse Maria: A minha alma engrandece ao Senhor, 47 e o meu espírito se alegrou em Deus, meu Salvador, 48 porque contemplou na humildade da sua serva. Pois, desde agora, todas as gerações me considerarão bem-aventurada, 49 porque o Poderoso me fez grandes coisas. Santo é o seu nome. 50 A sua misericórdia vai de geração em geração sobre os que o temem. 51 Agiu com o seu braço valorosamente; dispersou os que, no coração, alimentavam pensamentos soberbos. 52 Derribou do seu trono os poderosos e exaltou os humildes. 53 Encheu de bens os famintos e despediu vazios os ricos. 54 Amparou a Israel, seu servo, a fim de lembrar-se da sua misericórdia 55 a favor de Abraão e de sua descendência, para sempre, como prometera aos nossos pais. 56 Maria permaneceu cerca de três meses com Isabel e voltou para casa. 57 A Isabel cumpriu-se o tempo de dar à luz, e teve um filho. 58 Ouviram os seus vizinhos e parentes que o Senhor usara de grande misericórdia para com ela e participaram do seu regozijo. 59 Sucedeu que, no oitavo dia, foram circuncidar o menino e queriam dar-lhe o nome de seu pai, Zacarias. 60 De modo nenhum! Respondeu sua mãe. Pelo contrário, ele deve ser chamado João. 61 Disseram-lhe: Ninguém há na tua parentela que tenha este nome. 62 E perguntaram, por acenos, ao pai do menino que nome queria que lhe dessem. 63 Então, pedindo ele uma tabuinha, escreveu: João é o seu nome. E todos se admiraram. 64 Imediatamente, a boca se lhe abriu, e, desimpedida a língua, falava louvando a Deus. 65 Sucedeu que todos os seus vizinhos ficaram possuídos de temor, e por toda a região montanhosa da Judéia foram divulgadas estas coisas. 66 Todos os que as ouviram guardavam-nas no coração, dizendo: Que virá a ser, pois, este menino? E a mão do Senhor estava com ele. 67 Zacarias, seu pai, cheio do Espírito Santo, profetizou, dizendo: 68 Bendito seja o Senhor, Deus de Israel, porque visitou e redimiu o seu povo, 69 e nos suscitou plena e poderosa salvação na casa de Davi, seu servo, 70 como prometera, desde a antiguidade, por boca dos seus santos profetas, 71 para nos libertar dos nossos inimigos e das mãos de todos os que nos odeiam; 72 para usar de misericórdia com os nossos pais e lembrar-se da sua santa aliança 73 e do juramento que fez a Abraão, o nosso pai, 74 de conceder-nos que, livres das mãos de inimigos, o adorássemos sem temor, 75 em santidade e justiça perante ele, todos os nossos dias. 76 Tu, menino, serás chamado profeta do Altíssimo, porque precederás o Senhor, preparando-lhe os caminhos, 77 para dar ao seu povo conhecimento da salvação, no redimi-lo dos seus pecados, 78 graças à entranhável misericórdia de nosso Deus, pela qual nos visitará o sol nascente das alturas, 79 para alumiar os que jazem nas trevas e na sombra da morte, e dirigir os nossos pés pelo caminho da paz. 80 O menino crescia e se fortalecia em espírito. E viveu nos desertos até ao dia em que havia de manifestar-se a Israel. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, 2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; 3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, 4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. 5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. 8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course, 9 According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. 11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. 14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. 15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. 16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. 17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. 19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. 20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. 21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple. 22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless. 23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house. 24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, 25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. 26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. 39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; 40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. 41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: 42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. 56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house. 57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. 58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. 61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. 64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God. 65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. 67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, 68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Jó 13 1 Eis que tudo isso viram os meus olhos, e os meus ouvidos o ouviram e entenderam. 2 Como vós o sabeis, também eu o sei; não vos sou inferior. 3 Mas falarei ao Todo-Poderoso e quero defender-me perante Deus. 4 Vós, porém, besuntais a verdade com mentiras e vós todos sois médicos que não valem nada. 5 Tomara vos calásseis de todo, que isso seria a vossa sabedoria! 6 Ouvi agora a minha defesa e atentai para os argumentos dos meus lábios. 7 Porventura, falareis perversidade em favor de Deus e a seu favor falareis mentiras? 8 Sereis parciais por ele? Ou zombareis dele, como se zomba de um homem qualquer? 10 Acerbamente vos repreenderá, se em oculto fordes parciais. 11 Porventura, não vos amedrontará a sua dignidade, e não cairá sobre vós o seu terror? 12 As vossas máximas são como provérbios de cinza, os vossos baluartes, baluartes de barro. 13 Calai-vos perante mim, e falarei eu, e venha sobre mim o que vier. 14 Tomarei a minha carne nos meus dentes e porei a vida na minha mão. 15 Eis que me matará, já não tenho esperança; contudo, defenderei o meu procedimento. 16 Também isto será a minha salvação, o fato de o ímpio não vir perante ele. 17 Atentai para as minhas razões e dai ouvidos à minha exposição. 18 Tenho já bem encaminhada minha causa e estou certo de que serei justificado. 19 Quem há que possa contender comigo? Neste caso, eu me calaria e renderia o espírito. 20 Concede-me somente duas coisas; então, me não esconderei do teu rosto: 21 alivia a tua mão de sobre mim, e não me espante o teu terror. 22 Interpela-me, e te responderei ou deixa-me falar e tu me responderás. 23 Quantas culpas e pecados tenho eu? Notifica-me a minha transgressão e o meu pecado. 24 Por que escondes o rosto e me tens por teu inimigo? 25 Queres aterrorizar uma folha arrebatada pelo vento?
