LEITURA Bíblia Sagrada    Versão - João Ferreira de Almeida - 2ª edição PT-BR King James Version  Gênesis 28 Mateus  27 Ester 4 LEITURA  27º DIA  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Gênesis 28 1 Isaque chamou a Jacó e, dando-lhe a sua bênção, lhe ordenou, dizendo: Não tomarás esposa dentre as filhas de Canaã. 2 Levanta-te, vai a Padã-Arã, à casa de Betuel, pai de tua mãe, e toma lá por esposa uma das filhas de Labão, irmão de tua mãe. 3 Deus Todo-Poderoso te abençoe, e te faça fecundo, e te multiplique para que venhas a ser uma multidão de povos; 4 e te dê a bênção de Abraão, a ti e à tua descendência contigo, para que possuas a terra de tuas peregrinações, concedida por Deus a Abraão. 5 Assim, despediu Isaque a Jacó, que se foi a Padã-Arã, à casa de Labão, filho de Betuel, o arameu, irmão de Rebeca, mãe de Jacó e de Esaú. 6 Vendo, pois, Esaú que Isaque abençoara a Jacó e o enviara a Padã-Arã, para tomar de lá esposa para si; e vendo que, ao abençoá-lo, lhe ordenara, dizendo: Não tomarás mulher dentre as filhas de Canaã; 7 e vendo, ainda, que Jacó, obedecendo a seu pai e a sua mãe, fora a Padã-Arã; 8 sabedor também de que Isaque, seu pai, não via com bons olhos as filhas de Canaã, 9 foi Esaú à casa de Ismael e, além das mulheres que já possuía, tomou por mulher a Maalate, filha de Ismael, filho de Abraão, e irmã de Nebaiote. 10 Partiu Jacó de Berseba e seguiu para Harã. 11 Tendo chegado a certo lugar, ali passou a noite, pois já era sol-posto; tomou uma das pedras do lugar, fê-la seu travesseiro e se deitou ali mesmo para dormir. 12 E sonhou: Eis posta na terra uma escada cujo topo atingia o céu; e os anjos de Deus subiam e desciam por ela. 13 Perto dele estava o SENHOR e lhe disse: Eu sou o SENHOR, Deus de Abraão, teu pai, e Deus de Isaque. A terra em que agora estás deitado, eu ta darei, a ti e à tua descendência. 14 A tua descendência será como o pó da terra; estender-te-ás para o Ocidente e para o Oriente, para o Norte e para o Sul. Em ti e na tua descendência serão abençoadas todas as famílias da terra. 15 Eis que eu estou contigo, e te guardarei por onde quer que fores, e te farei voltar a esta terra, porque te não desampararei, até cumprir eu aquilo que te hei referido. 16 Despertado Jacó do seu sono, disse: Na verdade, o SENHOR está neste lugar, e eu não o sabia. 17 E, temendo, disse: Quão temível é este lugar! É a Casa de Deus, a porta dos céus. 18 Tendo-se levantado Jacó, cedo, de madrugada, tomou a pedra que havia posto por travesseiro e a erigiu em coluna, sobre cujo topo entornou azeite. 19 E ao lugar, cidade que outrora se chamava Luz, deu o nome de Betel. 20 Fez também Jacó um voto, dizendo: Se Deus for comigo, e me guardar nesta jornada que empreendo, e me der pão para comer e roupa que me vista, 21 de maneira que eu volte em paz para a casa de meu pai, então, o SENHOR será o meu Deus; 22 e a pedra, que erigi por coluna, será a Casa de Deus; e, de tudo quanto me concederes, certamente eu te darei o dízimo. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  28 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. 2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughers of Laban thy mother's brother. 3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; 4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. 5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. 6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughers of Canaan; 7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram; 8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father; 9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife. 10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Mateus 27 1 Ao romper o dia, todos os principais sacerdotes e os anciãos do povo entraram em conselho contra Jesus, para o matarem; 2 e, amarrando-o, levaram-no e o entregaram ao governador Pilatos. 3 Então, Judas, o que o traiu, vendo que Jesus fora condenado, tocado de remorso, devolveu as trinta moedas de prata aos principais sacerdotes e aos anciãos, dizendo: 4 Pequei, traindo sangue inocente. Eles, porém, responderam: Que nos importa? Isso é contigo. 5 Então, Judas, atirando para o santuário as moedas de prata, retirou-se e foi enforcar-se. 6 E os principais sacerdotes, tomando as moedas, disseram: Não é lícito deitá-las no cofre das ofertas, porque é preço de sangue. 7 E, tendo deliberado, compraram com elas o campo do oleiro, para cemitério de forasteiros. 8 Por isso, aquele campo tem sido chamado, até ao dia de hoje, Campo de Sangue. 9 Então, se cumpriu o que foi dito por intermédio do profeta Jeremias: Tomaram as trinta moedas de prata, preço em que foi estimado aquele a quem alguns dos filhos de Israel avaliaram; 10 e as deram pelo campo do oleiro, assim como me ordenou o Senhor. 11 Jesus estava em pé ante o governador; e este o interrogou, dizendo: És tu o rei dos judeus? Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Tu o dizes. 12 E, sendo acusado pelos principais sacerdotes e pelos anciãos, nada respondeu. 13 Então, lhe perguntou Pilatos: Não ouves quantas acusações te fazem? 14 Jesus não respondeu nem uma palavra, vindo com isto a admirar-se grandemente o governador. 15 Ora, por ocasião da festa, costumava o governador soltar ao povo um dos presos, conforme eles quisessem. 16 Naquela ocasião, tinham eles um preso muito conhecido, chamado Barrabás. 17 Estando, pois, o povo reunido, perguntou-lhes Pilatos: A quem quereis que eu vos solte, a Barrabás ou a Jesus, chamado Cristo? 18 Porque sabia que, por inveja, o tinham entregado. 19 E, estando ele no tribunal, sua mulher mandou dizer-lhe: Não te envolvas com esse justo; porque hoje, em sonho, muito sofri por seu respeito. 20 Mas os principais sacerdotes e os anciãos persuadiram o povo a que pedisse Barrabás e fizesse morrer Jesus. 21 De novo, perguntou-lhes o governador: Qual dos dois quereis que eu vos solte? Responderam eles: Barrabás! 22 Replicou-lhes Pilatos: Que farei, então, de Jesus, chamado Cristo? Seja crucificado! Responderam todos. 23 Que mal fez ele? Perguntou Pilatos. Porém cada vez clamavam mais: Seja crucificado! 24 Vendo Pilatos que nada conseguia, antes, pelo contrário, aumentava o tumulto, mandando vir água, lavou as mãos perante o povo, dizendo: Estou inocente do sangue deste [justo]; fique o caso convosco! 25 E o povo todo respondeu: Caia sobre nós o seu sangue e sobre nossos filhos! 26 Então, Pilatos lhes soltou Barrabás; e, após haver açoitado a Jesus, entregou-o para ser crucificado. 27 Logo a seguir, os soldados do governador, levando Jesus para o pretório, reuniram em torno dele toda a coorte. 28 Despojando-o das vestes, cobriram-no com um manto escarlate; 29 tecendo uma coroa de espinhos, puseram-lha na cabeça e, na mão direita, um caniço; e, ajoelhando-se diante dele, o escarneciam, dizendo: Salve, rei dos judeus! 30 E, cuspindo nele, tomaram o caniço e davam-lhe com ele na cabeça. 31 Depois de o terem escarnecido, despiram-lhe o manto e o vestiram com as suas próprias vestes. Em seguida, o levaram para ser crucificado. 32 Ao saírem, encontraram um cireneu, chamado Simão, a quem obrigaram a carregar-lhe a cruz. 33 E, chegando a um lugar chamado Gólgota, que significa Lugar da Caveira, 34 deram-lhe a beber vinho com fel; mas ele, provando-o, não o quis beber. 35 Depois de o crucificarem, repartiram entre si as suas vestes, tirando a sorte. 36 E, assentados ali, o guardavam. 37 Por cima da sua cabeça puseram escrita a sua acusação: ESTE É JESUS, O REI DOS JUDEUS. 38 E foram crucificados com ele dois ladrões, um à sua direita, e outro à sua esquerda. 39 Os que iam passando blasfemavam dele, meneando a cabeça e dizendo: 40 Ó tu que destróis o santuário e em três dias o reedificas! Salva-te a ti mesmo, se és Filho de Deus, e desce da cruz! 41 De igual modo, os principais sacerdotes, com os escribas e anciãos, escarnecendo, diziam: 42 Salvou os outros, a si mesmo não pode salvar-se. É rei de Israel! Desça da cruz, e creremos nele. 43 Confiou em Deus; pois venha livrá-lo agora, se, de fato, lhe quer bem; porque disse: Sou Filho de Deus. 44 E os mesmos impropérios lhe diziam também os ladrões que haviam sido crucificados com ele. 45 Desde a hora sexta até à hora nona, houve trevas sobre toda a terra. 46 Por volta da hora nona, clamou Jesus em alta voz, dizendo: Eli, Eli, lamá sabactâni? O que quer dizer: Deus meu, Deus meu, por que me desamparaste? 47 E alguns dos que ali estavam, ouvindo isto, diziam: Ele chama por Elias. 48 E, logo, um deles correu a buscar uma esponja e, tendo-a embebido de vinagre e colocado na ponta de um caniço, deu-lhe a beber. 49 Os outros, porém, diziam: Deixa, vejamos se Elias vem salvá-lo. 50 E Jesus, clamando outra vez com grande voz, entregou o espírito. 51 Eis que o véu do santuário se rasgou em duas partes de alto a baixo; tremeu a terra, fenderam-se as rochas; 52 abriram-se os sepulcros, e muitos corpos de santos, que dormiam, ressuscitaram; 53 e, saindo dos sepulcros depois da ressurreição de Jesus, entraram na cidade santa e apareceram a muitos. 54 O centurião e os que com ele guardavam a Jesus, vendo o terremoto e tudo o que se passava, ficaram possuídos de grande temor e disseram: Verdadeiramente este era Filho de Deus. 55 Estavam ali muitas mulheres, observando de longe; eram as que vinham seguindo a Jesus desde a Galiléia, para o servirem; 56 entre elas estavam Maria Madalena, Maria, mãe de Tiago e de José, e a mulher de Zebedeu. 57 Caindo a tarde, veio um homem rico de Arimatéia, chamado José, que era também discípulo de Jesus. 58 Este foi ter com Pilatos e lhe pediu o corpo de Jesus. Então, Pilatos mandou que lho fosse entregue. 59 E José, tomando o corpo, envolveu-o num pano limpo de linho 60 e o depositou no seu túmulo novo, que fizera abrir na rocha; e, rolando uma grande pedra para a entrada do sepulcro, se retirou. 61 Achavam-se ali, sentadas em frente da sepultura, Maria Madalena e a outra Maria. 62 No dia seguinte, que é o dia depois da preparação, reuniram-se os principais sacerdotes e os fariseus e, dirigindo-se a Pilatos, 63 disseram-lhe: Senhor, lembramo-nos de que aquele embusteiro, enquanto vivia, disse: Depois de três dias ressuscitarei. 64 Ordena, pois, que o sepulcro seja guardado com segurança até ao terceiro dia, para não suceder que, vindo os discípulos, o roubem e depois digam ao povo: Ressuscitou dos mortos; e será o último embuste pior que o primeiro. 65 Disse-lhes Pilatos: Aí tendes uma escolta; ide e guardai o sepulcro como bem vos parecer. 66 Indo eles, montaram guarda ao sepulcro, selando a pedra e deixando ali a escolta. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  27 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. 3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. 9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; 10 And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me. 11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. 12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. 13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? 14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. 15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. 19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. 22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. 26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. 33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, 34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. 35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 36 And sitting down they watched him there; 37 And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews. 38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. 39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. 44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. 48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. 55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children. 57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: 58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. 59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. 61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. 62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. 64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Ester 4 1 Quando soube Mordecai tudo quanto se havia passado, rasgou as suas vestes, e se cobriu de pano de saco e de cinza, e, saindo pela cidade, clamou com grande e amargo clamor; 2 e chegou até à porta do rei; porque ninguém vestido de pano de saco podia entrar pelas portas do rei. 3 Em todas as províncias aonde chegava a palavra do rei e a sua lei, havia entre os judeus grande luto, com jejum, e choro, e lamentação; e muitos se deitavam em pano de saco e em cinza. 4 Então, vieram as servas de Ester e os eunucos e fizeram-na saber, com o que a rainha muito se doeu; e mandou roupas para vestir a Mordecai e tirar-lhe o pano de saco; porém ele não as aceitou. 5 Então, Ester chamou a Hataque, um dos eunucos do rei, que este lhe dera para a servir, e lhe ordenou que fosse a Mordecai para saber que era aquilo e o seu motivo. 6 Saiu, pois, Hataque à praça da cidade para encontrar-se com Mordecai à porta do rei. 7 Mordecai lhe fez saber tudo quanto lhe tinha sucedido; como também a quantia certa da prata que Hamã prometera pagar aos tesouros do rei pelo aniquilamento dos judeus. 8 Também lhe deu o traslado do decreto escrito que se publicara em Susã para os destruir, para que o mostrasse a Ester e a fizesse saber, a fim de que fosse ter com o rei, e lhe pedisse misericórdia, e, na sua presença, lhe suplicasse pelo povo dela. 9 Tornou, pois, Hataque e fez saber a Ester as palavras de Mordecai. 10 Então, respondeu Ester a Hataque e mandou-lhe dizer a Mordecai: 11 Todos os servos do rei e o povo das províncias do rei sabem que, para qualquer homem ou mulher que, sem ser chamado, entrar no pátio interior para avistar-se com o rei, não há senão uma sentença, a de morte, salvo se o rei estender para ele o cetro de ouro, para que viva; e eu, nestes trinta dias, não fui chamada para entrar ao rei. 12 Fizeram saber a Mordecai as palavras de Ester. 13 Então, lhes disse Mordecai que respondessem a Ester: Não imagines que, por estares na casa do rei, só tu escaparás entre todos os judeus. 14 Porque, se de todo te calares agora, de outra parte se levantará para os judeus socorro e livramento, mas tu e a casa de teu pai perecereis; e quem sabe se para conjuntura como esta é que foste elevada a rainha? 15 Então, disse Ester que respondessem a Mordecai: 16 Vai, ajunta a todos os judeus que se acharem em Susã, e jejuai por mim, e não comais, nem bebais por três dias, nem de noite nem de dia; eu e as minhas servas também jejuaremos. Depois, irei ter com o rei, ainda que é contra a lei; se perecer, pereci. 17 Então, se foi Mordecai e tudo fez segundo Ester lhe havia ordenado. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  4 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry; 2 And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth. 3 And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. 4 So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not. 5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was. 6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate. 7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. 8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people. 9 And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. 10 Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai; 11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or women, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. 12 And they told to Mordecai Esther's words. 13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. 14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? 15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, 16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. 17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦
