E chamou àquele lugar Maanaim. 3 Então, Jacó enviou mensageiros adiante de si a Esaú, seu irmão, à terra de Seir, território de Edom, 4 e lhes ordenou: Assim falareis a meu senhor Esaú: Teu servo Jacó manda dizer isto: Como peregrino morei com Labão, em cuja companhia fiquei até agora. 5 Tenho bois, jumentos, rebanhos, servos e servas; mando comunicá-lo a meu senhor, para lograr mercê à sua presença. 6 Voltaram os mensageiros a Jacó, dizendo: Fomos a teu irmão Esaú; também ele vem de caminho para se encontrar contigo, e quatrocentos homens com ele. 7 Então, Jacó teve medo e se perturbou; dividiu em dois bandos o povo que com ele estava, e os rebanhos, e os bois, e os camelos. 8 Pois disse: Se vier Esaú a um bando e o ferir, o outro bando escapará. 9 E orou Jacó: Deus de meu pai Abraão e Deus de meu pai Isaque, ó SENHOR, que me disseste: Torna à tua terra e à tua parentela, e te farei bem; 10 sou indigno de todas as misericórdias e de toda a fidelidade que tens usado para com teu servo; pois com apenas o meu cajado atravessei este Jordão; já agora sou dois bandos. 11 Livra-me das mãos de meu irmão Esaú, porque eu o temo, para que não venha ele matar-me e as mães com os filhos. 12 E disseste: Certamente eu te farei bem e dar-te-ei a descendência como a areia do mar, que, pela multidão, não se pode contar. 13 E, tendo passado ali aquela noite, separou do que tinha um presente para seu irmão Esaú: 14 duzentas cabras e vinte bodes; duzentas ovelhas e vinte carneiros; 15 trinta camelas de leite com suas crias, quarenta vacas e dez touros; vinte jumentas e dez jumentinhos. 16 Entregou-os às mãos dos seus servos, cada rebanho à parte, e disse aos servos: Passai adiante de mim e deixai espaço entre rebanho e rebanho. 17 Ordenou ao primeiro, dizendo: Quando Esaú, meu irmão, te encontrar e te perguntar: De quem és, para onde vais, de quem são estes diante de ti? 18 Responderás: São de teu servo Jacó; é presente que ele envia a meu senhor Esaú; e eis que ele mesmo vem vindo atrás de nós. 19 Ordenou também ao segundo, ao terceiro e a todos os que vinham conduzindo os rebanhos: Falareis desta maneira a Esaú, quando vos encontrardes com ele. 20 Direis assim: Eis que o teu servo Jacó vem vindo atrás de nós. Porque dizia consigo mesmo: Eu o aplacarei com o presente que me antecede, depois o verei; porventura me aceitará a presença. 21 Assim, passou o presente para diante dele; ele, porém, ficou aquela noite no acampamento. 22 Levantou-se naquela mesma noite, tomou suas duas mulheres, suas duas servas e seus onze filhos e transpôs o vau de Jaboque. 23 Tomou-os e fê-los passar o ribeiro; fez passar tudo o que lhe pertencia, 24 ficando ele só; e lutava com ele um homem, até ao romper do dia. 25 Vendo este que não podia com ele, tocou-lhe na articulação da coxa; deslocou-se a junta da coxa de Jacó, na luta com o homem. 26 Disse este: Deixa-me ir, pois já rompeu o dia. Respondeu Jacó: Não te deixarei ir se me não abençoares. 27 Perguntou-lhe, pois: Como te chamas? Ele respondeu: Jacó. 28 Então, disse: Já não te chamarás Jacó, e sim Israel, pois como príncipe lutaste com Deus e com os homens e prevaleceste. 29 Tornou Jacó: Dize, rogo-te, como te chamas? Respondeu ele: Por que perguntas pelo meu nome? E o abençoou ali. 30 Àquele lugar chamou Jacó Peniel, pois disse: Vi a Deus face a face, e a minha vida foi salva. 31 Nasceu-lhe o sol, quando ele atravessava Peniel; e manquejava de uma coxa. 32 Por isso, os filhos de Israel não comem, até hoje, o nervo do quadril, na articulação da coxa, porque o homem tocou a articulação da coxa de Jacó no nervo do quadril. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  32 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. 3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now: 5 And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. 6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. 7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; 8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape. 9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: 10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. 11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. 12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. 13 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother; 14 Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams, 15 Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals. 16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. 17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? 18 Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us. 19 And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him. 20 And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. 21 So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company. 22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok. 23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. 31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. 32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Marcos 3 1 De novo, entrou Jesus na sinagoga e estava ali um homem que tinha ressequida uma das mãos. 2 E estavam observando a Jesus para ver se o curaria em dia de sábado, a fim de o acusarem. 3 E disse Jesus ao homem da mão ressequida: Vem para o meio! 4 Então, lhes perguntou: É lícito nos sábados fazer o bem ou fazer o mal? Salvar a vida ou tirá-la? Mas eles ficaram em silêncio. 5 Olhando-os ao redor, indignado e condoído com a dureza do seu coração, disse ao homem: Estende a mão. Estendeu-a, e a mão lhe foi restaurada. 6 Retirando-se os fariseus, conspiravam logo com os herodianos, contra ele, em como lhe tirariam a vida. 7 Retirou-se Jesus com os seus discípulos para os lados do mar. Seguia-o da Galiléia uma grande multidão. Também da Judéia, 8 de Jerusalém, da Iduméia, dalém do Jordão e dos arredores de Tiro e de Sidom uma grande multidão, sabendo quantas coisas Jesus fazia, veio ter com ele. 9 Então, recomendou a seus discípulos que sempre lhe tivessem pronto um barquinho, por causa da multidão, a fim de não o comprimirem. 10 Pois curava a muitos, de modo que todos os que padeciam de qualquer enfermidade se arrojavam a ele para o tocar. 11 Também os espíritos imundos, quando o viam, prostravam-se diante dele e exclamavam: Tu és o Filho de Deus! 12 Mas Jesus lhes advertia severamente que o não expusessem à publicidade. 13 Depois, subiu ao monte e chamou os que ele mesmo quis, e vieram para junto dele. 14 Então, designou doze para estarem com ele e para os enviar a pregar 15 e a exercer a autoridade de expelir demônios. 16 Eis os doze que designou: Simão, a quem acrescentou o nome de Pedro; 17 Tiago, filho de Zebedeu, e João, seu irmão, aos quais deu o nome de Boanerges, que quer dizer: filhos do trovão; 18 André, Filipe, Bartolomeu, Mateus, Tomé, Tiago, filho de Alfeu, Tadeu, Simão, o Zelote, 19 e Judas Iscariotes, que foi quem o traiu. 20 Então, ele foi para casa. Não obstante, a multidão afluiu de novo, de tal modo que nem podiam comer. 21 E, quando os parentes de Jesus ouviram isto, saíram para o prender; porque diziam: Está fora de si. 22 Os escribas, que haviam descido de Jerusalém, diziam: Ele está possesso de Belzebu. E: É pelo maioral dos demônios que expele os demônios. 23 Então, convocando-os Jesus, lhes disse, por meio de parábolas: Como pode Satanás expelir a Satanás? 24 Se um reino estiver dividido contra si mesmo, tal reino não pode subsistir; 25 se uma casa estiver dividida contra si mesma, tal casa não poderá subsistir. 26 Se, pois, Satanás se levantou contra si mesmo e está dividido, não pode subsistir, mas perece. 27 Ninguém pode entrar na casa do valente para roubar-lhe os bens, sem primeiro amarrá-lo; e só então lhe saqueará a casa. 28 Em verdade vos digo que tudo será perdoado aos filhos dos homens: os pecados e as blasfêmias que proferirem. 29 Mas aquele que blasfemar contra o Espírito Santo não tem perdão para sempre, visto que é réu de pecado eterno. 30 Isto, porque diziam: Está possesso de um espírito imundo. 31 Nisto, chegaram sua mãe e seus irmãos e, tendo ficado do lado de fora, mandaram chamá-lo. 32 Muita gente estava assentada ao redor dele e lhe disseram: Olha, tua mãe, teus irmãos e irmãs estão lá fora à tua procura. 33 Então, ele lhes respondeu, dizendo: Quem é minha mãe e meus irmãos? 34 E, correndo o olhar pelos que estavam assentados ao redor, disse: Eis minha mãe e meus irmãos. 35 Portanto, qualquer que fizer a vontade de Deus, esse é meu irmão, irmã e mãe. .... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  3 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. 2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. 3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. 4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. 5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. 6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. 7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, 8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. 9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. 10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. 11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. 12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known. 13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. 14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: 16 And Simon he surnamed Peter; 17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: 18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, 19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house. 20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. 22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. 31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. 32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Ester 8 1 Naquele mesmo dia, deu o rei Assuero à rainha Ester a casa de Hamã, inimigo dos judeus; e Mordecai veio perante o rei, porque Ester lhe fez saber que era seu parente. 2 Tirou o rei o seu anel, que tinha tomado a Hamã, e o deu a Mordecai. E Ester pôs a Mordecai por superintendente da casa de Hamã. 3 Falou mais Ester perante o rei e se lhe lançou aos pés; e, com lágrimas, lhe implorou que revogasse a maldade de Hamã, o agagita, e a trama que havia empreendido contra os judeus. 4 Estendeu o rei para Ester o cetro de ouro. Então, ela se levantou, pôs-se de pé diante do rei 5 e lhe disse: Se bem parecer ao rei, se eu achei favor perante ele, se esta coisa é reta diante do rei, e se nisto lhe agrado, escreva-se que se revoguem os decretos concebidos por Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o agagita, os quais ele escreveu para aniquilar os judeus que há em todas as províncias do rei. 6 Pois como poderei ver o mal que sobrevirá ao meu povo? E como poderei ver a destruição da minha parentela? 7 Então, disse o rei Assuero à rainha Ester e ao judeu Mordecai: Eis que dei a Ester a casa de Hamã, e a ele penduraram numa forca, porquanto intentara matar os judeus. 8 Escrevei, pois, aos judeus, como bem vos parecer, em nome do rei, e selai-o com o anel do rei; porque os decretos feitos em nome do rei e que com o seu anel se selam não se podem revogar. 9 Então, foram chamados, sem detença, os secretários do rei, aos vinte e três dias do mês de sivã, que é o terceiro mês. E, segundo tudo quanto ordenou Mordecai, se escreveu um edito para os judeus, para os sátrapas, para os governadores e para os príncipes das províncias que se estendem da Índia à Etiópia, cento e vinte e sete províncias, a cada uma no seu próprio modo de escrever, e a cada povo na sua própria língua; e também aos judeus segundo o seu próprio modo de escrever e a sua própria língua. 10 Escreveu-se em nome do rei Assuero, e se selou com o anel do rei; as cartas foram enviadas por intermédio de correios montados em ginetes criados na coudelaria do rei. 11 Nelas, o rei concedia aos judeus de cada cidade que se reunissem e se dispusessem para defender a sua vida, para destruir, matar e aniquilar de vez toda e qualquer força armada do povo da província que viessem contra eles, crianças e mulheres, e que se saqueassem os seus bens, 12 num mesmo dia, em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, no dia treze do duodécimo mês, que é o mês de adar. 13 A carta, que determinava a proclamação do edito em todas as províncias, foi enviada a todos os povos, para que os judeus se preparassem para aquele dia, para se vingarem dos seus inimigos. 14 Os correios, montados em ginetes que se usavam no serviço do rei, saíram incontinenti, impelidos pela ordem do rei; e o edito foi publicado na cidadela de Susã. 15 Então, Mordecai saiu da presença do rei com veste real azul-celeste e branco, como também com grande coroa de ouro e manto de linho fino e púrpura; e a cidade de Susã exultou e se alegrou. 16 Para os judeus houve felicidade, alegria, regozijo e honra. 17 Também em toda província e em toda cidade aonde chegava a palavra do rei e a sua ordem, havia entre os judeus alegria e regozijo, banquetes e festas; e muitos, dos povos da terra, se fizeram judeus, porque o temor dos judeus tinha caído sobre eles. .... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  8 On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her. 2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. 3 And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews. 4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king, 5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces: 6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred? 7 Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews. 8 Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse. 9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language. 10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries: 11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey, 12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. 13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. 14 So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace. 15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. 16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour. 17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day.
